My husband and I have always said that we want to keep as much of our Mexican culture and language as we can. We will raise our kids talking to them in Spanish, we will cook Mexican food for them, we will celebrate Mexican Holidays, etc.
Of course we know that at the same time we will end up celebrating all the Canadian Holidays and we will get involve in the Canadian culture too.
So more than likely our kids will end up being some kind of Mexi-Cans (Mexican Canadians).
When I fantasize about the future, I imagine that one day one of our kids will open the fridge and ask me: Mamá, dónde está la mayonesa? (Mom, where is the mayo?), and I will reply: entre la miel de maple y la salsa (between the maple syrup and the hot salsa).
So there you go, my kids will grow up between maple syrup and hot salsa...
